This painting is a celebration of Leinster’s historic defeat of Munster in Croke Park in April 2009. My one and only attendance at a rugby match, with a lot of sadness in my life at the time.
I’ll never forget the thrill of the pace of play in that match, with Brian O’Driscoll (and others) performing amazing and heartstopping moves. Being at that game was like being in a little bubble of joy, silly as that sounds.
I call it Nancy boys no more. – a reference to the irreverent name given to the Leinster team who scuppered that slur (!) on that day.
